Bayside Church's program Hit The Streets has become a hit with the community providing necessary resources and time to essential services.
In May 2009, Bayside Church embraced five projects as a part of Hit The Streets campaign. They include:
Le Page Primary School in Cheltenham North
– involving working bee activities, building retaining walls, freshening up front entrances, painting, gardening, mulching
Kayden Street in Cheltenham
– involving gardening, mulching, cleaning windows, any domestic type work
Fernhill Retirement in Sandringham
– involving providing morning tea and a musical concert
Frankston High School
– involving gardening, painting and mulching
Port Melbourne Kindergarten
– involving painting, gardening and mulching
Le Page Primary School Acting Principal Garry Martin stated "Bayside Church certainly achieved their objective to be a blessing to the School! Every parent and staff member viewing the work for the first time makes a point of commenting on it in the most positive. Like myself, they readily ask if they do home visits!"
Frankston High School Principal John Albiston commented "The canteen annexe looks bright and fresh, as with the junior locker bay and also a number of railing areas. We are indebted for the time and effort that was given on this occasion."
Hit The Streets is all about reaching out and supporting our community services.
“Our society is becoming more individualistic and often we feel we need to do it on our own. The reality is if these services ceased to exist we would be severely disadvantaged," said Rob Buckingham, Senior Minister of Bayside Church.
“The whole concept of community is that every part is vital and that people work together. We want to reach out to services and families in our community and lend a helping hand, as well as make a statement that no one needs to do it on their own.”
Bayside Church is looking to repeat Hit The Streets program in 2010.
