Volunteers are needed to help bring joy to 300 people at a community Christmas lunch at Bayside Church in Cheltenham.

The Bayside Church Community Christmas Lunch is held annually on Christmas Day to give people an opportunity to enjoy the meaning of Christmas and to connect with others.

The three course traditional lunch, in its 17th consecutive year, is held for free for people who find themselves alone or disadvantaged at Christmas.

“Christmas triggers a variety of emotions for people. What should be a joyous time to spend with family and friends can often not be the case. We want to ensure that people in the community have a choice, that they have somewhere to go if they are alone at Christmas,” said Deborah Gates, Community Care Coordinator.

“Loneliness can affect people of all socio-economic backgrounds. We like to provide a place that has all the warmth and comforts of home and to enable people to discover new friendships.”

As the lunch is staffed solely by volunteers, there is a wide range of volunteer roles available such as kitchen assistance and being part of a wash up crew.

Donations and sponsorships starting at $15 per person are also sought.

Anyone who would like to volunteer or attend the lunch can book in by phoning Bayside Church on 9585 2455.

Bayside Church Christmas Lunch is part of Bayside Church’s Christmas calendar which also includes Bayside Church Carols which runs from 19-20 December.
